Luke’s Awesome Room

This is Luke….
We just finished redecorating his room…come see!

Luke’s Room Before
This is Luke’s Room Now.
I repainted this room a few months ago and left it really simple.  But when I found this fence section at the lumber store … I knew exactly what to do with it.
I used the backside of it because it was more weathered and I like the cross beams.
This iron headboard was a wedding gift from my grandparents.
It was actually shiny black and brass… 🙂 (1993)
I spray painted it to look like flat black iron.
A Mon. – Fri. wardrobe shelf helps our mornings go smooth.
The words were printed on vinyl from my circut and applied right on the wall.
I bought these letters at Pottery Barn when my kids were babies.
That dresser was my husbands as a boy – it’s been refinished a few times.
A bookshelf made from an old wood pallet.
This is a task light from my garage.  It makes for an awesome reading light.
A 25 watt bulb puts off plenty of light without being too bright.
I turn a soft lamp on in each bedroom in the evenings to help keep the mood calm.
(Calm?….doesn’t always work)
Two tree trunks from our backyard support a small bench that houses some
white crates filled with toys and things.
Part of the old pallet features some of Luke’s little treasures.
Luke wanted me to make him a sign that says
 “Life is Good”
I’m a loyal customer at the lumber store where I found this fence section.
It wasn’t very straight and looked neglected so I asked the guys if I could rescue it.
They also let me throw in an old wood pallet
 which made this project…FREE!
I have an eye for reusable items that might add character (basically…JUNK).  Sometimes while we are driving in the car we’ll see things on the side of the road with a free sign on them …. my husband always speeds up at that point hoping I won’t notice….
 I ALWAYS notice!
Sweet Dreams…

  1. I was looking at your home, It's GORGEOUS! I love the cup holder hanging in the kitchen, is it possible for me to get one?

  2. Luke's room is awesome–I'm sure he loves it! Free stuff is always the greatest–you do have such wonderful talent to think what it \”can be\”. Have a great and Happy New Year.

  3. Oh my goodness! I really love how uniquely decorated his room is. Using the fence post and recycled wood to hold books and knick knacks is so creative. I also like how you spray painted his iron bed to look like real iron. My 10 yr old has an old iron bed and I painted it red many years ago but have been thinking about repainting it (and his dresser) black. I've used the same task lighting in my son's room too! Ha! His are clipped to his bookcases shining down on his huge lego collection. Aren't they just the best little lights? Thanks for all the great inspiration!

  4. Love Luke's room! My little boy will be 9 on Tuesday 🙂 but I enjoyed seeing your sons charming room. Everything is just perfect! Curious to see what youve done with your bathrooms :)Im also so wondering about the coffee cup holder, in your kitchen, where or how did you create it?And what is the best way to distress furniture? Like cabinets etc?

  8. Hi. I'm new here and found you through Funky Junk. I just LOVE this bedroom! I too love using pallets and the wood fences are awesome! I do have a question for you though about the logs that are holding up the little bench/shelf thing. Did you have to do anything to the wood to prepare it for being in the house? I ask this because I have had issues with pinecones one time and acorns another. I did crafts with both and after about a week or so, little tiny slug like things were coming out of the acorns and TONS of tiny bugs were hatching out of the pinecones. This happened at 2 different times but now has made me a little gun shy I guess about bringing some of the elements IN. So, I am wondering if I just need to prepare the items in some way. Like maybe put it in a trash bag for about 2 weeks for anything to hatch?? Just curious and needing help because I LOVE bringing the outdoors in. Blessings to you. Kim

Too funny that your husband speeds up when he sees the free stuff on the side of the road…I thought I was the only one that had a husband like that.
