8 Easy, Charming Details for Home

As we clean up holiday decor – now is a good time to add some simple,
charming details around the house.
#1
Add a wreath to interior doors and large bathroom mirrors.

Use a thumb tack and ribbon to attach it to the top of the door, frame or wallboard above.

or even a moss covered frame on a hook

#2
Attach a quaint little hook to a wooden baluster to dangle a small photo frame or wreath.

#3
Dress up plain sides of your cabinet with legs and an iron scroll.
Even use a scroll door mat that comes in rubber.
These legs are a pillar cut down to the height of the cabinet then cut in half. Use liquid nails and screws from the inside to secure it to the cabinet ends.
(this pillar was found in an old barn that was torn down)
#4
Bring in some green!
Plants are good for the air and easy on the eyes. Use garden urns to display them indoors.
#5
You knew I would recommend a vintage door in a visible place in your home. Pantry doors are a great place but I like a basement door to look inviting. An interior french door is an easy upgrade.
#6
Decorate above doors with scrolls, pallet planters, simple word signs….
or a shelf…
#7
Place small family photos in unexpected places –
like the kitchen window…
or wrapped around a glass candle.
#8
Bring in architectural salvage and tilt them along a wall.
They make a great back drop for photos, wreaths or even add hooks to hang coats.

I added a little ledge to this one.

  1. Love it all! I especially love the hand-made signs. Would you mind posting what kind of cricut you use? I'm thinking of buying one but am unsure which one to go with. Any information is helpful. Thanks!

  2. Great ideas! I love putting scrolls over windows and doors, but you gave me some additional ideas. I just adore the coziness of your beautiful home!

  3. I don't know which room is my favorite. I love the old bench in your bedroom and the \”spinner\” on the wall in the dining room the most.

  4. Oh-I love all your sweet ideas. You do such a great job on EVERYTHING it is hard to pick just one thing, I do love that little ledge though- xo Diana

  5. Great tips and I will be revisting this. I used your idea for a wreath on our front closet door (a little wood berry wreath held up with burlap ribbon) after seeing one of yours and I love it there. I'm also in the process of adding more greenery, but haven't found any lovely urns that are affordable yet. Now to find a lovely old door or two to prop….

  6. I like the white cover on the sofa and I was wondering where you got the cover from? Your home is so beautiful!

  7. Love it, as always..most of everything you mentioned I already have pinned….Will try to tackle some of those projects in 2013…by the way I did hang some boxwood balls on twine in my office window…will send you a pic soon.

  8. Wonderful decorating ideas! I'm always in the mood for something new once I put away the Christmas decorations. I love your home – so inviting!!! Thank you for sharing! Hugs, Leena

  9. I popped in to check out your recommended paint colors… but of course had to leave a comment about your lovely ideas! Love each and every one. My favorite is the reminder to put photographs in unexpected places. You have been blessed with such an eye for scale and style. I need to stay on the lookout for a screen door for my pantry! YOU ROCK, HOLLY!!!

  10. I LOVE all your ideas. I'm working on getting more wreaths at least. I also have some old shutters I decorated with in the living room this past week. There's an old glass paned door in our basement. I'm going to have to ask my husband to pull it out and look it over, see what I can come up with and use it! Thanks for all the inspiration, Holly! Have a great weekend. ~ Jamie
