My Space – office, craft, play…

A formal dining room does not get much use in our homes….
unless I turn it into “my space”.
Every mom needs a place to dump and create.
(a place that is versatile for hodge podge decor with many uses)

This room is used for anything from crafting to homework.

I even store my pots and pans here on my industrial style shelving.

Our neighborhood tag sale was last weekend. I bought this small desk for $3 and spray painted it flat black.

Twinkle lights are always a happy addition to a front porch, garden or my office –
any time of year.

I nailed some left over Vine Ribbon to the bottom of my windows to clip notes.

No sew garden burlap is hung for window panels.

A free pallet turned planter box decorates the space above my window.

Empty wine bottles reflect the afternoon light.

I keep bottles with cute or meaningful labels.
I like the brand Middle Sister – I am the middle sister in my own family.

My mug holder hangs from an iron plant stand and keeps my twine close at hand.

I am proud that I have been married for 19 fun years –
this Family Established sign sits above a mirror for a special display.

The dangling twinkle lights make it so I don’t even have to turn on a lamp
or overhead light.

A “not so traditional space” can be anything for me since it is “My Space”.
(really it is just a family “free” room for what ever we need it for)

In our last house I had a similar room –

  1. As usual, you've got me thinking… I have a room that never gets used… maybe I need a mommy cave too. You've done such a wonderful job. Gotta see the tutorial on those burlap curtains!!! I love that you are proud of being married 19 years. I'm proud of you, too. We are 16 years and going strong… quite an accomplishment in today's world! Have a wonderful day! jules

  2. That is such a good idea to turn your unused dining room into an office like that. That is a very cool looking floor lamp you have too! Perfect for that room. Great reuse of that little utility table. You'd never know that it used to look like that in a former life. Ha!

  3. Good for you for making this unused space your own! And your style is stamped all over this room – love how you layer all the elements, and then throw in something unexpected, like the industrial shelving. And it works! Love it!

  4. I love that you can turn your dinning room into a room that is used more than for holidays. I kind of wished I used mine for something productive than storage for discarded things of the moment.

  5. Holly I love your little space! I am going to have to find me a pallet lady. That planter box rocks! Thanx for coming to the party. Hope your week is going well.

  6. No offense, but I love your quirky, multi-functional space. Love the lights, the windows and vine, your pallet planter and those burlap curtains. would really like to have a creative space like that. And I think it's neat you have a place to store your pots & pans. Where do you buy \”garden burlap\”?Rita at Cashel1916@yahoo.com

  8. i just get all a-quiver when I hear someone got a steal on something… like the desk! Spray painting it black was a great idea. And my eyes darted over to the shelving with the large boxes marked 1,2,and 3! Lots of great ideas and thoughts went into making a space your own!!
